Veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces, as well as current serving members who like to fish are invited to cast out their lines during the Oakville Veterans Fishing Derby.
This will be the 7th edition of the annual event, which sees fishermen and women take to Lake Ontario to see who can make the biggest catch. Both trout and salmon will be judged, and contestants who catch the heaviest fish will receive both a trophy and prize.
There is no cost to participate in the derby, and those who purchase a day fishing license will have the charge reimbursed to them. The day will kick off with a sit-down style breakfast, and it will wind down with a barbecue of hearty favorites. Each participant will be given both a hat and t-shirt, and there will be lots of prizes to win on the day.
According to the event’s organizers, they are hoping it will benefit both the physical and mental health of the service members and vets who take part. Branded corporate gifts can be prepared to use as prizes for a competition such as this.
Participants in the fishing derby will gather at the Oakville Bronte Launch Ramp on June 17th. An opportunity to both find out more and register to take part in the day’s activities can be found on the Visit Oakville website.
