The Schizophrenia Society of Ontario will soon be putting on its signature fundraising event for this year, and Oakville is one of the communities that will be taking part.
The Peace of Minds Walk will bring together both people living with schizophrenia, along with their families, friends and those in the area who wish to show them their support.
The monies collected from both the walkers and the individuals who sponsored them will be used to help fund programming and services for people with this form of mental illness, as well as research into finding improved treatments, and hopefully, a cure.
According to the walk’s organizers, a secondary but just as important purpose for the activity is to raise awareness about schizophrenia and psychosis, and to help the public gain a better understanding of mental illness. It went on to say that over 130,000 people in the province are living with these conditions, and this fundraiser is a very important one. Pop-up banners and other promotional products can be custom designed for an event like this by a printer in the local area.
This 24th staging of the Peace of Minds walk has been planned for May 28. Further information about the function, as well as an opportunity to sign up as a sponsor, volunteer or participant, can be found on the Schizophrenia Society of Ontario’s website.
